Thank you for considering becoming a
foster carer!
Being a foster carer for cats and kittens in need is an incredibly rewarding experience
When you foster with Deedlebug, you take a cat(s) or kitten(s) into your home and give them TLC, love and food. We ask that you take them to their vet appointments (paid for by the rescue) until we find their forever home.
Some carers use a secure space in their home (like a spare room, laundry, bathroom) and others use a cat playpen (which we can provide), which they put in their living room or similar.
The role of the carer is to give them love and socialise them until they are adopted.
Depending on the cat or kitten you take, you can get fully socialised cats/kittens or ones that are a little more timid. For brand new carers we would always send you kitties that are already friendly and domesticated.
While we provide ongoing assistance and support for all our carers, we are especially committed to helping those who want to go the extra mile and take on a kitty who is scared, timid or spicy, and need a little more time and work.
Many of our carers will tell you that rehabilitating such kittens and cats can be amongst the most satisfying and worthwhile work in cat rescue.
The rescue covers the cost of all vet-work to get kitties ready for adoption.
At a minimum this comprises sterilization, microchipping, vaccination, worm/flea treatments and a general health check. A number of our kitties, however, also come in with additional acute or chronic conditions that need veterinary treatment. We ask that foster carers take the kitties in their care to their necessary vet appointments (paid for by the rescue). We partner with vets all over Perth to ensure this is as convenient for carers as possible.
Foster carers are asked to provide food (good quality biscuits and wet food) and litter for the cats in their care, although we do provide carers with donations as and when we can.
While we mostly operate in the Northern beach suburbs of Perth, we partner with vets all over Perth, so all our foster carers are within close distance of a partner vet.
